Service Level Agreement - User Accounts


Definition

User accounts at Moss Landing Marine Laboratories are required to enable access to and authenticate services for faculty, staff, students, and visiting scientists.
Services requiring authentication include network access (Cisco CleanAccess), Google Apps (mail, calendar, docs), server dropboxes, course reserves, and remote access to Library resources (Shibboleth).

1 A demonstrated need and authorization from a faculty member or Research Affiliate is needed to submit a request for a VPN account

Faculty includes emeritus, research faculty, and official visiting scientists.
Affiliates are researchers with independent programs housed at MLML who have been awarded this status.
Research staff are those who are paid from research grants to collect and analyze data.

When faculty, staff, or students resign, retire, graduate, or otherwise complete their activities at MLML, user accounts will be closed after the following periods of time.

  • Regular Faculty: one year unless emeritus status granted
  • Research Faculty: three months after all SJSURF grant activity has ceased
  • Research Staff: three months
  • Administrative Staff: one month
  • Graduate students: one semester after graduation
  • Undergraduate and Open University students: end of enrolled semester
